Do it once, do it CERAMIC TILE!!!!!! Click on picture to enlarge. Although not foolproof, if installed properly and water leaks repaired promptly, it should last until you can't stand the style of it anymore. The only drawbacks to ceramic tile as far as I am concerned are that it tends to be more slippery than other flooring choices. I suggest choosing a tile with a mild texture and a moderately dull finish for a floor. Also, it makes your floor height a lot higher. It costs more initially but it will last and last and last and last....If somehow you manage to chip a tile and have been thoughtful enough to have extra tile and grout....You probably won't be able to tell where the repair was made... Did I mention, Make sure it is installed properly?! Hardwood flooring Click on picture to enlarge. Planks....Hardwood, a gorgeous choice....But where to use it? Bedrooms, make an excellent choice. Usually they have lighter traffic than other rooms. Beware of dogs.....Especially larger dogs, will tend to make this choice less appealing, scratches and more scratches. Beware of cats.....Especially cats that aren't litter trained, will tend to make this choice less appealing. Keep the door closed till this one is fixed. I don't recommend using hardwood flooring in a Foyer, Kitchen, Bathroom, or a Hallway with heavy traffic because it tends to get scratched or water damaged from melting snow. Water is wood's worst enemy. Vinyl tile versus linoleum which really is better? My opinion is that there are, advantages versus disadvantages, not better or worse..... When in doubt...do ceramic Vinyl tile as a general rule is more durable....In order to get linoleum to roll up, it has to be softer. Vinyl tile has seams that are around every square foot, some people can't handle that. Vinyl tile is more easy to repair. But it will show wear between old and new. Bear in mind that you should always get and save more than you need no matter what flooring you choose, even my beloved ceramic tile. That $1 - $8 per tile today isn't a lot of money, but 3-5 years from now when the manufacturer stops making that tile or changes the color slightly...That extra material becomes priceless...Also, especially with tile, rarely is all tile cut without making a mistake..That extra material will at least save you a trip to get more. Linoleum has a cleaner finished look, but it is softer. Linoleum is better with water spills. Linoleum will show wear between old and newly repaired. Vinyl floors or linoleums worst enemy is not mud, it is grit, gravel and anything crunchy. When you step on it, you scratch or impale the thin layer of protective plastic that keeps your floor clean. Laminate flooring.....Only my opinion....LAST RESORT....IT IS CHEAPLY MADE, EASILY DAMAGED , AND JUST PLAIN LOOKS CHEAP.... |
