Should I really do it myself? Do you have at least twice as much time as you think the project will take...Especially the first time you do a project....It always takes longer than you think it should. How dangerous is the project? Do you really know? Can someone die, or lose a limb? Can your house burn to the ground, or even explode? If you were at your job how much would you be getting paid versus how much you are saving doing it yourself? Really, how good DO you expect it to look when you're done? What about your significant other? Do you love to troubleshoot? If not, why would you want to work on something you know your going to hate? Your Family, sanity and personal relationships have a value also. Have you done it before? Have you at least seen it done? Can you live without whatever you are working on for any length of time? Are you financially and emotionally prepared to make mistakes? Do you have ALL the right tools? Do you know how to use ALL the tools safely? It is o.k. to rent, or borrow. Borrowing tools...personal policy.....If I didn't have enough money to buy a tool in the first place, can I afford to buy two....One to replace the one that I borrowed and broke while I am using it, and one for me to have for next time I need it. Will you save any money by tearing it apart yourself? Not really. Most of the time tearing things apart goes fast....And sometimes you have to do it certain ways to save time later. Should you expect to save money by disposing of garbage yourself? Sometimes. Garbage removal costs money, whether you do it or the contractor does it. Only as a rough guide...If there will be a little garbage with no hazards such as broken glass or harsh chemicals, then you should save some money... If you have a lot of garbage or hazardous materials chances are good that you should ask the contractor to do it. |
